Six districts are under orange alert until 03:00 on Wednesday, then shifting to yellow due to northwest swells with waves from 5 to 6 meters, reaching a maximum height of 10 meters.
Due to the sea conditions, the IPMA has placed the districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, and Braga under yellow alert until 03:00 on Wednesday.
According to information available on the National Maritime Authority (AMN) website, the maritime bars of Viana do Castelo, Póvoa de Varzim, Vila do Conde, Douro, Figueira da Foz, Nazaré, and Cascais are closed to navigation.
The maritime bar of Aveiro is restricted to vessels shorter than 35 meters.
The IPMA has also placed the districts of Faro, Setúbal, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, and Coimbra under yellow alert due to strong winds, with gusts up to 80 kilometers per hour (km/h) until 21:00 today.
Guarda and Castelo Branco are also under yellow alert, but due to snowfall above 1,600 meters until 15:00 today.
The IPMA has issued a yellow alert for the northern and southern coasts of the island of Madeira due to forecasts of strong winds, with gusts reaching 80 km/h, especially in the easternmost part, until 09:00 today.
The northern coast of the island of Madeira and Porto Santo are also under yellow alert due to strong maritime agitation until 06:00 on Wednesday.
The orange alert is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a « moderate to high risk weather situation, » and the yellow alert when there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on the weather situation.
